Six Degrees of Rogers Hornsby Revisited

We're still a long way from the end of the All-Star break, or at least it seems that way. In my boredom, I thought of an August 17, 1997 New York Times article I remember poring over at the beach with my dad on a family vacation.

Tom Remes wrote:

If baseball is no longer the national pastime, maybe the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game is. The game that proves every movie star can be connected to Kevin Bacon in six steps or less is all the rage in Hollywood (where, of course, connections are everything) and has piqued the interest of regular Americans who wish they were so connected. Well, the stated national pastime, baseball, can offer the same experience to people who prefer their seating in a stadium instead of a cineplex. And in baseball's game, the center of it all is the greatest right-handed hitter of all time, Rogers Hornsby. To introduce the game, I've connected a current player from each major league team back to the Rajah...

Then taking up the whole page of the Sunday paper was a big chart connecting one player from each team to Rogers Hornsby in six or fewer teammates. I'm revisiting it in 2013 with the help of Baseball-Reference's Oracle of Baseball. So 16 years later, as we wait another day for the post-All-Star-Game pennant push, here is a new version of Six Degrees of Rogers Hornsby:
